The Chapel of Our Lady of the Snow

The history of the Chapel dates back to 1970, the year it was built on an ancient votive pillar thanks to the initiative of Genre Vittoria (known as Vitoria dal Cap),
with the vital contribution of her nephew Giovanni Genre (known as “Giuan dal Cap”), who designed and built the chapel himself, including the altar.

The project was also supported by Don Luigi Destre, with help from several residents of the hamlet—a group united by their faith in the Madonna, strong determination, and a deep sense of community.

On September 20, 1970, the Chapel was officially blessed by Don Luigi Destre, on behalf of the Bishop of Saluzzo, Monsignor Antonio Fustella.
Dedicated to Our Lady of the Snow, the Chapel—located in the heart of the hamlet—has over time become a spiritual landmark and a symbol of unity for the community.

On August 5, 2007, thanks to an initiative by Mario Costantini, a statue of an Alpino soldier was placed next to the Chapel, in memory of the fallen from the hamlet and in honor of the Alpini Corps.

"Our" Chapel remains to this day a cherished sanctuary of faith, remembrance, and hope for current and future generations, deeply linking us to Christian tradition and its values.
It remains open throughout the month of August and is carefully maintained by local residents, who look after the interior decorations and the floral arrangements outside.

During the summer months, a few weekly Masses are celebrated there, depending on the availability of the parish priest.
The Chapel of Our Lady of the Snow stands on a small rise along the old narrow mule track that once connected the area to Serre Uberto, which at the time was permanently inhabited.
In the 1950s, the mule track was replaced by a carriage road built lower down.

Today, Serre Uberto is mainly visited by holidaymakers during the summer season.

Every year
on the
first Sunday of August,
the
Feast of Our Lady of the Snow
is celebrated:
a joyful moment of devotion that continues to bring the community together in prayer and celebration.
